Originally released on May 4, 2024, “Not Like Us” is just one of the many diss tracks that Kendrick and Drake hurled at one another during the heat of the beef last spring. While none of Drake’s diss songs against Kendrick landed the same level of cultural impact, “Not Like Us” received five nominations at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video.

While the idea of a diss track being so heavily nominated for the music industry’s biggest awards is a wild idea, this isn’t the first time it’s happened, and — as Billboard points out — it’s not even the first time a song conceived specifically as a Drake diss was nominated and won.

Back in 2018, Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) dropped “This Is America,” a massively successful hit song that went on to win every single Grammy it was nominated for during the show’s 2019 ceremony: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance, and Best Music Video.

Funnily enough, however, the song started out as a bit of a tongue-in-cheek diss to Drake diss. “This idea for the song started as a joke, to be completely honest, “Gambino revealed in a 2023 GQ cover story. “‘This Is America’ – that was all we had was that line.”

“It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it,” he added. “But then I was like, ‘This shit sounds kind of hard, though.’ So I was like, ‘Let me play with it.'”

If nothing else, it seems like we need Drake to stay in the game just because the friction he creates allows better rappers to make award-winning music. Tune into the Grammys on Feb. 2 to see how well “Not Like Us” fairs against non-Drake competition.

Before joining Linkin Park in 1999, Bennington had been the vocalist for Grey Daze, which he co-founded with drummer Sean Dowdell in the early ’90s. The band released two full-length albums but went on hiatus when Bennington left to front the iconic nu-metal band.

Grey Daze reformed in 2017 and worked on some new music, which would not be released until after Bennington’s death. Sadly, the singer died of suicide on July 20 of the same year. In 2020, Grey Daze released Amends, their first new album in more than 20 years. Two years later, in 2022, they put out The Phoenix, a follow-up album that also posthumously featured Bennington on vocals.

Now, Brooklyn Vegan reports that Grey Daze is back again with a new song, “Fake Little Lies,” and this time they’ve tapped singer Cris Hodges as their new frontman. “The last couple of years have been about celebrating Chester Bennington and his incredible influence with Grey Daze,” said Hodges, who has been with the band since 2023. “But now, it’s time to turn the page and start writing the next chapter.”

After announcing new plans for a Yeezy women’s clothing line, Hot New Hip-Hop reports that West offered some strong words for his competitors, who he feels won’t stand a chance once he gets his products of the ground.

“No corporations leveraging my platform,” West wrote in a since-deleted post. “Using me to get to get to us. Overcharging our community while ignoring my vision and direction. Stopping the foam runners and Yeezy slides production during COVID only to copy the designs.”

West also specifically called out Adidas, who he’s been embroiled in a very public spat with over the past few years. The brand’s used to manufacture Yeezy shoes, but the relationship deteriorated significantly in 2022 due to a various factors, including Kanye’s erratic behavior, his public criticism of Adidas executives, and his antisemitic comments, which led to Adidas cutting ties with him in October 2022.

“People tried to tell me to go back to Adidas,” West said. “Of course they were people close enough to ask for money from me. They didn’t care about my freedom or vision. Now my vision is coming to life.”

Finally, West made his John Wick reference, as well as mentioning 2Pac, and one of his own songs, “Off the Grid,” from 2021. “I have a John Wick vendetta,” he said, wrapping up his post. “Against every fashion company. As my fellow Gemini Tupac said Die mutherf*cker Die. Now play off the grid.”

West has remained relatively under the radar in recent months, having dropped his album Vultures 1 in early 2024. In September, the rapper announced his 11th studio album, ‘Bully’, and unveiled the cover art in late October – but as yet the album has no release date.

On Wednesday, NIN announced they’ll head out on the Peel It Back Tour later this year. The run will kick off in Europe on June 15, and then head stateside in August. Along the way, they’ll make stops in a number of major US cities, including Portland, Chicago, Boston, Nashville, Phoenix, and LA.

The announcement comes after tour dates began leaking earlier this month, prompting the band to explain that they were planning a tour but wanted to wait on the reveal due to the wildfires raging in Los Angeles.

JPEGMafia is currently touring Europe in support of his 2024 album, I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, which will soon be re-released as I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU (Director’s Cut). According to The Associated Press, the rapper was playing a show at Huxleys Neue Welt venue in Berlin, when an as-yet-identified individual used pepper spray in the crowd.

JPEGMafia had to stop the concert early, and approximately 1,600 concertgoers were reportedly evacuated from the venue. Six people were taken to the hospital after being injured by the pepper spray.

The concertgoer’s reasoning for using the irritant remains unknown. Police are currently investigating the incident.

At this time, JPEGMafia and his reps do not appear to have commented on the situation.

JPEGMafia’s Twitter Beef With Drake Fans

Last year, JPEGMafia made headlines for his brutal Drake diss on I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, in which he echoed Kendrick Lamar‘s assertion that the Canadian hitmaker is a pedophile.

Drake fans were unsurprisingly unhappy about the bars. Rather than backing down, however, JPEGMafia took to X (formerly Twitter) to diss Drake’s fans as well.

“1st off i been dissing that n-gga since 2016, them shits was throwaway bars not noteworthy,” he wrote. “Second off if anybody got a problem with what i said on this album, my tour dates in bio.”

“Third, y’all cant even pay your rent but defending drake for free, go outside and be somebody.”

Back in 2018, JPEGMafia told Billboard that he really didn’t have an issue with Drake, his verbal jabs weren’t meant to be taken seriously. He may have changed his opinion since, though.

The clip features a slew of puppet-like women characters in various situations but most commonly medically aesthetic procedures like botox. I’m not sure “good” is the right word to describe it, but you could say it’s definitely a “video” set to “music.”

TMZ reports that a trespasser broke into Cudi’s home on Wednesday, Jan. 15, and just hung out for a while. The outlet states that the man ate some food from Cudi’s kitchen and used his bathroom, including taking a shower.

The individual—who is believed to be an unhoused person—was spotted on security cameras, prompting police to be called. When officers arrived, they reportedly found the man shirtless in Cudi’s kitchen.

“For all the folks who lost their homes, people [that] are dealing with this, my heart hurts for you and I’m praying for us all and I send All my love to you and yours,” he continued. “If you have to evacuate, get out immediately. Don’t hesitate. Be safe L.A. Love you guys.”

Over on the House of Heat website, it’s noted that Nike chose to memorialize the “legendary” NYC club because of how it represented “the epicenter of punk rock and new wave music in the 1970s and 80s.”

“Opened in 1973 by Hilly Kristal, the East Village spot initially envisioned as a haven for Country, Bluegrass, and Blues (hence the CBGB name) soon transformed into a breeding ground for iconic acts like the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, and Patti Smith,” Nike explains.

“Though it shuttered in 2006, the club’s influence reverberates through music and culture.”

In a recent Instagram post, Stipe shared a graphic for the “Lights Out Meta” campaign, which calls for social media users to log out of all Meta platforms from Jan. 19 – 26. This would include Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Messenger, WhatsApp, Giphy, Meta Quest, and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

“I’ll be logged off for the week. Starting tomorrow,” Stipe wrote in his post. “Please consider doing the same so corporations like Meta can imagine there might be consequences for helping advance the far right in America and worldwide. Or are we too addicted [that] we can’t log off even for one week?”

Over on the post’s caption, Stipe called Meta “gross” and added that he is “really happy to step away” for a short period of time in “protest.” Stipe explained that he would eventually “come back and decide what to do from there.”

The boycott of Meta platforms comes days after CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company would drop their fact-checking program for Facebook and Instagram, claiming it made “too many mistakes and too much censorship” and is “too politically biased.”

Instead, Facebook and Instagram will utilize a method similar to the “community notes” model used by X (formerly Twitter), though Billboard notes that this structure has been met with a lot of criticism from experts over concerns of widespread dangerous far-right ideology.
